Tamo Fruit Bowl

$79.99

Handcarved by artisans in Pasto, Colombia, these deep fruit bowls make for eye-catching display pieces. Each bowl is carved by hand by traditional woodworkers before being handed off to traditional tamo de pasto artisans, who carefully create the intricate and colorful patterns by hand before finishing with a lacquer to better preserve the art.

  • Depth: 5”

  • Diameter at top: 7”

  • Handmade in Pasto, Colombia.

The Art of Tamo
This distinctive craft originates from Pasto, Colombia. Artisans begin with a wooden base, then adorn it with straw harvested from wheat and barley. Using techniques similar to mosaic art, they meticulously shave and layer dyed straw pieces to create intricate designs. Each finished piece receives three protective coats of lacquer.

Care & Use Instructions
This handcrafted piece is designed for decorative use and light serving purposes, such as displaying fruit, charcuterie, or dry snacks. While durable, it is not intended for regular tableware use. To preserve the artwork:

  • Avoid hot liquids, direct heat, or sun

  • Never cut directly on the surface or use utensils

  • Hand wash only with mild soap and a soft cloth; dry immediately
